Game Announcements [June 2018] — Microsoft (E3 Part 2)
Microsoft — Game Announcements
Microsoft had a bunch of reveals on their E3 presentation including Fallout 76. I won’t be listing everything, and since I’m mostly restricted to PC gaming. I have little insights to offer to most of their announcement. With that being said, let’s begin:
Cyberpunk 2077 was initially announced 5 years ago and fast forward to E3 2018, we got a new cinematic trailer. Not that I am complaining, I really enjoyed the trailer and it’s probably an automatic purchase for me. And if you didn’t already know, Cyberpunk 2077 is made by CD Projekt Red, the creators of The Witcher franchise.
Devil May Cry 5 – Spring 2019
Now this is a surprise, I thought the original Devil May Cry franchise ended with the release of Ninja Theory’s DmC. Although I would have preferred they continue the reboot, this isn’t bad by any means. A classic hack-n-slash with high BPM music, I could totally picture it now.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – Early 2019
I never got into Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the latest unofficial entry to the Souls series. We’re only at the second entry of my E3 game announcements roundup, and there are already three characters with prosthetic arms. Anyways, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is basically Dark Souls set in Feudal Japan.
Microsoft announced three Gears of War games. Gears POP! a collaboration with Funko POP! mobile game. Gears Tactics a turn-based strategy game a la X-COM for PC. And finally, Gears 5, the sequel to Gears of War 4. I’ve played the original game for more than a decade now. And I think it’s still one of the best third-person shooter in PC.
Dying Light 2
I played the first Dying Light game but wasn’t able to finish it. I guess I just got bored of doing unsatisfying errands and enjoyed free-roaming more than doing the story. And since I love games where you make choices and deal with consequences, this game looks promising.
This is probably the most important announcement by Microsoft. But to be honest, I don’t follow Halo and have no idea if people are still into it. I only played Halo: Reach and it’s the best Xbox game I’ve played but that’s it.
Mircosoft announced a lot more but as I have said, I could only comment on some of them. Also there are games like Fallout 76 and The Division 2 that were revealed by Microsoft. But will most likely appear on upcoming presentations, so I’ll probably talk about it there. Anyway, while these are really great games, I hope we see more original and new IP.
